Lady Palm (Raphis excelsa)

One of only a few palms that grow well inside, the Rahpis palm or lady palm, is an elegant and stunning choice of palm to grow. Raphis palms have long, narrow, dark green fronds that are deeply creased and form a large fan shape from the ends of the stems. New growth emerges all year round however these are renowned for being quite slow growing. Raphis palms will flower inside if given enough light, but the colourful sprays of flowers can sometimes be missed due to being hidden down in amongst the fronds.

General care

Watering Lady Palms must be allowed to dry between watering. Do not keep constantly damp.

Potting: Keep in a plastic nursery pot and sit inside a cover pot unless growing outside.

Feeding A liquid or granular fertiliser can be used. Apply granular PowerFeed Controlled Release Pots & Plants for Indoor & Outdoors once every season. It combines a premium mix of nutrients, seaweed, and microbes for all plants in pots. Supplement or apply a liquid fertiliser such as PowerFeed PRO SERIES Pots & Planters or PowerFeed All Purpose including Natives every 2 to 4 weeks from spring to autumn and less often in winter.

For a ready-to-use no mixing formula, apply PowerFeed Indoor & Potted Plants 1.25 Lt trigger spray to the soil. This easy-to-use liquid fertiliser and soil conditioner helps to improve your soil and feed your plants. Apply every 2 to 4 weeks during the growing season and monthly in winter if needed.

Watch out Raphis palms should be basically pest free if grown in good light. They can be prone to mealybug or scale if light conditions are too low and if overwatered. Move plants outdoors before spraying with EarthCare Enviro Pest Oil insect spray, spraying both sides of the foliage and repeating 14 days later if needed.

Black blemishes on the foliage may appear if kept constantly wet. Allow to dry fully between watering.
