Holiday Garden Care

Heading away for more than a few days? Line up a garden buddy to pop in and water, pick produce and keep an eye on things if the weather turns hot. Before you leave, give everything a deep drink, apply Seasol, top up mulch, mow the lawn and harvest anything that might spoil while you are gone. Group pots in a sheltered, easy-to-water spot near the hose and flag new plantings or special favourites that need extra care. If you use a timer or sprinkler, make sure the hose reaches every corner. A promise of fresh tomatoes, herbs or flowers is the best incentive to keep your helper coming back.

Watering and Soil Moisture in February

Summer soil is thirsty, especially in pots, raised beds and sandy spots. Water early in the morning so moisture reaches the cooler root zone, where plants can handle the heat. If water beads and runs off rather than soaking in, the soil may be hydrophobic. Ease it back with a gentle soak, then apply Seasol Super Soil Wetter & Conditioner to help water penetrate again. Once the soil is absorbing well, lay a generous blanket of mulch to keep roots cool and reduce evaporation. Check pots more often because they heat up quickly and dry out fast.

February Lawn Care

Lawns are often first to show stress. Crispy patches, yellowing and uneven colour usually point to dry or water-repellent soil underneath. Water deeply in the morning so moisture sinks in before the heat builds. If water pools rather than soaking in, apply Seasol Super Soil Wetter & Conditioner to help it penetrate. Keep the mower a notch higher through summer so the grass shades its own crown. When a cooler spell arrives, treat the lawn to Seasol for Lush Green Lawns to support colour and recovery.

Caring for Your Patch in February

Summer vegies grow fast and need steady care. Tomatoes are sensitive to heat and moisture swings. Blossoms can drop after hot nights, fruit may split after sudden rain and leaves sometimes curl to protect themselves. Keep fruiting on track with deep watering, solid staking and regular feeds of PowerFeed PRO Series Tomatoes & Vegetables. Cucumbers, zucchinis and beans enjoy the same routine. Pick often and they’ll keep producing. Check for sap-sucking pests and act early with EarthCare White Oil Insect Spray if you spot scale or aphids on edible crops.

Caring for Roses & Ornamentals in February

Roses often pause their flowering in mid-summer. Encourage new blooms by lightly pruning, removing spent flowers and cutting back to fresh shoots. Feed with a complete rose food such as Seasol plus Nutrients Roses & Flowers, work it into the topsoil and water in well. New growth and flowers usually follow within several weeks.

If aphids move in, invite beneficial insects by keeping the garden diverse, squash small numbers by hand or spray with EarthCare White Oil insect spray.

Caring for Indoor Plants in January

Hot weather can be tough indoors, too. Warm rooms and dry air stress foliage, especially near north-facing windows or air conditioning.

Pull plants back from harsh sun, water when the top few centimetres of mix feel dry and mist occasionally to lift humidity.

Feed gently with PowerFeed Indoor & Potted Plants to keep growth fresh. Wipe dust from leaves so they can breathe and check for pests such as scale or mealybug. EarthCare White Oil is suitable for indoor ornamentals when you need a safe control.
